Shirley Ann Barta of Taylor, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul, Nebraska at the age of 89.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the Calamus Trinity Methodist Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate. Interment will be in the Taylor Cemetery at Taylor, Nebraska. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Memorials are suggested to 4 The Cure. Shirley Ann was born April 27, 1936, at Burwell, Nebraska to Woodrow and Alice (Alderman) Witt. She grew up in the Burwell area on the family farm and ranch and graduated from Burwell High School.
Shirley and Dewayne Kenneth Barta were united in marriage on June 30, 1955, at Burwell, Nebraska. The couple first lived in Grand Island before returning to the Burwell area in the summer of 1959. They later farmed and ranched in Loup County and settled in Taylor in the mid 1960’s.
Shirley did clerical at the Sargent Co-Op for many years and the Burwell Hospital and Clinic. Her love of clothing and fashion led her to her favorite job at Dry Creek Western Wear in Burwell.
Shirley spent most of her time helping Dewayne farm and ranch. The couple raised their family of four boys and were dedicated to assisting them with their activities and supporting them during their rodeo days.
Shirley was an excellent seamstress and had a love for horses and horseback riding.
Survivors include her four sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Bobbie of St. Paul, Wade and Yvonne of Taylor, Lynn and Jackie of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Craig and Lori of Upton, Wyoming; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one expectant great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dewayne who passed away on June 9, 2019; brother, Larry Witt and sister, Sharon Burgess.
