A tragic drowning claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl on Thursday afternoon in Fullerton, Nebraska. According to the Nance County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were called to Power House Park after reports came in of a drowning in the Cedar River. Witnesses told authorities that two teenagers had been swimming in the river when the strong current pulled the girl underwater.
First responders, including the Nance County Sheriff’s Office, Fullerton Volunteer Fire Department, and Fullerton Volunteer Rescue Squad, located the girl downstream of the dam. They immediately began lifesaving efforts, including CPR, at the scene. She was transported by ambulance to Merrick County Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
Fullerton is located about 124 miles west of Omaha and roughly 41 miles northeast of Grand Island. The identity of the victim has not yet been released. In a statement, Sheriff Ben Bakewell and the Nance County Sheriff’s Office extended their deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the girl.
