Dale K. Moses of Burwell passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 79.
Dale Kenneth Moses was born to Owen Kenneth and Beulah May (Dexter) Moses on August 9, 1946, in a house on the Bob Clifford Ranch in Holt County, Nebraska. About two years later the family moved to a place in southwest Holt County. Dale received his early education in a one room country school three miles from his home and graduated from Burwell High School in 1964.
Following high school, he attended an art school in Omaha and later moved to Denver to live with his brother, Orin, where he worked until he moved to Lincoln. Dale worked for Gooch Feed Mills which later became ADM. He worked in their print shop and mail advertising department for over twenty years. He enjoyed working there because it was not just a “sit down” job. He got to go to the post office making deliveries and doing work that kept him active. When his job there ended, he went to work at a mail sorting center in Seward until he retired.
Soon after moving to Lincoln, he was asked by a friend to help with a Boy Scout troop when one of their leaders was absent, which led to Dale’s involvement with scouting for many years. He loved helping the boys earn their various patches and badges, especially the ones involving outdoor activities. Taking the boys and their fathers on camping trips, canoeing lakes and rivers across the state and beyond. He spent many hours preparing for and setting up activities for the camporees. In 1987, he received the Vigil Honor and in 1983, he received the Founders Award with the Boy Scouts of America. Through the years he received many awards and was a chairman and co-chairman for district camporees.
After a vehicle accident in 2005, he retired and moved to Burwell. He always looked forward to helping his brother and nephews in the hayfields. He enjoyed frogging at lakes around Lincoln and fishing anywhere. A fishing pole and gear were a permanent fixture in his vehicles.
Dale loved growing garden vegetables, grapes, raspberries and all flowers, especially dahlias, tulips, daffodils, geraniums, begonias and amaryllis which he shared with family and friends.
Dale was a creative person and enjoyed leather work, making various leather crafts and pictures on leather. He also liked painting, scratch ink drawing and crafting lamps from diamond willows. He looked forward to helping with the craft projects at vacation bible school at the Methodist and Cedar Creek Churches. In later years he did a lot of crossword fill-in puzzles, and he also enjoyed reading. He studied and read the Bible with a special interest in Revelations. He was always willing to help out where and when he could.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Pamela Moses; brother-in-law, Rollin Nelson and numerous aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his twin brother, Daryl of Amelia; a brother, Orin and his wife, BJ Moses of Spirit Lake, Idaho; a sister, Marilyn Nelson of Ord; and three aunts, Opal Kirkpatrick, Marlene Dexter, and Delores Dexter. He leaves behind Aaron and Tami Moses, Paul and Joni Moses, Rachael Moses, Alan and Jennifer Job and Jerry and Finessa Northrup; and many great nieces, great nephews and cousins who he loved so much.
