The Nebraska Department of Revenue is warning residents about a new text message scam claiming to be from the state agency. The message urges recipients to click a link to “receive their tax refund,” but officials say it’s completely fraudulent.
According to the department’s statement released Tuesday, the text even references a Nebraska Revised Statute to appear legitimate. However, the embedded link directs users to a fake website designed to steal personal and banking information.
The Department of Revenue emphasized that it never requests personal tax details via text message. Nebraskans are urged not to click any suspicious links or share sensitive information.
For legitimate refund updates, residents should visit the official state website at revenue.nebraska.gov/individuals/refund-information
