Ralph A. Carman of Ord passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the Arbor Center in Ord, Nebraska at the age of 89.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Graveside Interment and Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Ord Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. Ord Memorial Chapel is assisting with the arrangements. Ralph Arthur Carman was born June 25, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa to Glenn H. and Esther N. Carman. He grew up in Woodward, Iowa and attended school at Gardner Consolidated, Woodward High School and graduated from Dawson High School.
Following high school, Ralph continued his education at a Railroad Telegraphy School in Omaha. In February of 1955, he joined the United States Army and did tours in Germany, Hawaii, Korea, Vietnam and stateside. He retired from the Army in March of 1975.
After the Army, Ralph first worked at the YDC in Kearney and was a Deputy for the Sherman County Sheriff’s Department. In 1979, he settled in Ord and was a Police Officer for the City of Ord until he retired in 1998.
Ralph was united in marriage to Winifred Ann Grantham on February 29, 1960, at Manhattan, Kansas. Winnie passed away on July 15, 2008.
Ralph was a member of the IOOF, Patriarchs Militant, VFW and Association of the United States Army. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking and watching T.V.
Survivors include two stepsons, Richard D. Burns of Holden, Louisiana and Lloyd E. (Christina) Blevins of Fayetteville, North Carolina; a daughter, Michelle Carman of Ord; stepdaughter, Mary (Steven) Haynes of Bradenton, Florida; stepdaughter-in-law, Karen Burns; twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Winnie; and a stepson, John E. Burns.
