A 32-year-old Superior man has been sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 48 to 50 years for the murder of the mother of his child. Sebastian Dunbar was convicted of first-degree murder for the December 17th, 2023 shooting death of 35-year-old Molly Gruber. Prosecutors say Dunbar fired a rifle through the door of their home during a domestic dispute, striking Gruber while their 2-year-old child was inside the residence. Law enforcement responded quickly, found Gruber with a gunshot wound, and arrested Dunbar at the scene. Gruber later died at the hospital.
Following a six-day trial in June, Dunbar was found guilty of first-degree murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony, assault by strangulation, and negligent child abuse. The Nebraska Attorney General’s Office assisted the Nuckolls County Attorney in the prosecution. On Tuesday, Nuckolls County District Court Judge Morgan Farquhar handed down the life sentence, ensuring Dunbar will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
