A 14-year-old boy from Grand Island was taken into custody after police responded to an assault at a home on Michigan Avenue Friday afternoon. Officers arrived around 3:45 p.m. and were told the teen had been acting aggressively and causing damage inside the residence. According to Grand Island Police Chief Dean Elliott, the juvenile threw both a wooden and metal chair at his 37-year-old stepfather. The stepfather was able to block the chairs, but he sustained bruising and swelling, though he did not require hospital treatment. Because Grand Island does not have a juvenile detention facility, the teen was transported more than 180 miles away to Sioux City’s youth detention center. He was arrested on charges of criminal mischief, second-degree assault, and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.
