A routine trip to McDonald’s ended in tragedy Tuesday morning in Grand Island. Authorities say 69-year-old Michael Dickinson was injured in an accident in the drive-thru lane at the McDonald’s along Highway 30 near downtown shortly before 10:30 a.m.
According to the Grand Island Police Department, Dickinson exited his vehicle while it was still in drive. The vehicle then moved forward, pinning him between the car door and the restaurant building. Emergency responders freed him and transported him to CHI Health St. Francis for treatment. Despite medical efforts, Dickinson later died at the hospital.
