James D. “Jim” Goff, of Burwell passed away peacefully on Christmas Morning, December 25, 2025, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell, Nebraska at the age of 93.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the Burwell Baptist Church. Pastors Joel Wentworth, Ben Burris and Stan Gurney will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery at Burwell, Nebraska. Military Honors will be presented by the Clifford Clark American Legion Post #298. The family will greet friends at the church on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Burwell Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department or the Burwell Baptist Church. James Dayton Goff was born July 4, 1932, in Garfield County, Nebraska to Clifford V. and Ruth Z. (Holloway) Goff. He was raised in Garfield County and graduated from Burwell High School in 1949.
Shortly after high school graduation, Jim and his brother, Floyd enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in France where he drove a school bus for the children on the Army base.
Jim and Charlene “Charlie” Hayes were united in marriage on April 8, 1956. The couple made their home four miles west of Burwell and were blessed with a son, David. Jim began his lifetime career of farming and ranching with his dad on the family farm. They raised Spotted Poland China Hogs and Polled Herefords and later established Goff’s Inc., which remains a family business.
In his later years, Jim enjoyed hauling corn in his truck and hauling feed for Loup Valley Alfalfa Mill and Udell Feed and Supply.
While on the farm, Jim took great pride in maintaining and painting the buildings and fences and restoring old tractors. His three grandchildren, Dustin, Kaden and Kortney were his pride and joy.
Jim attended the Burwell Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing hymns. He also sang in a Christmas Choir and at church for special evenings.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Charlie of Burwell; a son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Korlyn Goff of Burwell; three grandchildren, Dustin and Anna Goff, Kaden Goff and Dylan and Kortney Miller all of Burwell; five loving great-grandchildren, Tysen Welton, Macey Goff, Floyd Goff and Rylee and Riggin Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Floyd Goff and a sister, Marge Miller.
