The family resided near Ord at the time of his birth. John attended school at North Loup-Scotia Elementary and graduated from North Loup-Scotia High School in 1973. Other schools attended were in Council Bluffs and Pleasant Valley, Iowa. John’s name was changed from Dennis Dale “Butch” Timmons to John William Weiner when Jesslyn married Larry Weiner and Larry adopted John.
John married Pamela Irvin at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island, Nebraska. John was working for Wheeler’s in Hastings at the time then transferred to Bridgeport, Nebraska, working as manager of the Bridgeport Wheeler’s Store. Later they moved to the Hawthorne Ranch north of Taylor where John was employed from 1980-1983. John and Pamela divorced after moving to Ravenna.
John moved to Oregon where he reunited with his biological father, Dale “Red” Timmons who later passed away from Polycystic Kidney Disease.
John married Louise Cogburn shortly after moving to Oregon and became the loving father to her four children, Don, Chris, Nicholas, and Lacee. He considered them to be his own as they considered him to be their Dad. This union ended after seventeen years, and John returned to Nebraska to begin Dialysis for Polycystic Kidney Disease.
John met his cousin, Tammy Timmons at a family reunion in Colorado and after finding she was a match for John’s kidney transplant, she generously saved John’s life on October 16, 2007, by donating her kidney. Tammy gave John eighteen more years, in which John treasured every moment given. In return, John gifted his Harley Davidson to Tammy, that she learned to ride and continues to ride to this day.
Shortly after his transplant, John and Shannon Adams-Webber began dating; eventually getting married on March 29, 2020. John loved his country and traveled thousands of miles on his Harley beholding the beauty this world offers in nature and history. John enjoyed the freedom he felt while riding across this country with his fellow biker friends.
John especially valued his work life and supervised major jobs in the Oregon and Washington area. While on dialysis, he worked as an operator for Roger Frahm and in most recent years at Ulrich Gravel.
After moving back from Washington, John bought the bar in North Loup and called it “Gertie’s” in memory of his grandmother. He owned and managed many rental properties. John’s work life involved many work experiences. He was proud of his accomplishments and was held in high esteem for his talents. John was a well-respected operator as he was meticulous and a master operator.
John was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading everything by Louis L’Amour. He was a kind, tender, and gracious man; he was larger than life and people gravitated toward him with his quiet, humble, generous nature. John had a way with animals and children with his gentle spirit, and he especially loved his horses, dogs and grandchildren. To know John was to love John. John’s friend Big Bill said it best, “John sucked the marrow out of the bones of life treasuring every moment and everybody.” John will be remembered with love in our hearts for being not just a good man but a great man…one of the best we have ever known!
