A total of 10 Nebraska track and field student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships, set for March 13-14 at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Athletes in the top 16 of their respective events qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Axelina Johansson leads the way with the No. 1 shot put mark in the country this indoor season at 64-8 1/2 (19.72m), an NCAA indoor record. Dyson Wicker enters the NCAA Indoor Championships ranked No. 2 in the pole vault with a school-record mark of 19-0 (5.79m). Rhianna Phipps leaped to No. 3 in the country in the triple jump after a personal-best 44-8 1/4 (13.62m). All three were crowned Big Ten indoor champions in their respective events over the weekend.
NU’s seven other qualifiers include: Mine De Klerk (No. 5 shot put), Cade Moran (No. 6 shot put), Berlyn Schutz (No. 12 mile), Ela Velepec (No. 14 high jump), Karsyn Leeling (No. 14 high jump), Amelia Flynt (No. 14 shot put) and Kellyn Kortemeyer (No. 14 weight throw).
Johansson (shot put), Phipps (triple jump) and Wicker (pole vault) were all crowned Big Ten champions this season. Johansson was named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Championships.
