A horse trainer at Fonner Park in Grand Island has been fined after officials discovered prohibited items in his tack room. The Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission issued a $1,000 fine to trainer David Anderson after determining he was in possession of a needle and syringe in his assigned tack room, according to a ruling posted by the Association of Racing Commissioners International.
The ruling states the items were discovered on March 6, 2026. Anderson chose to waive his right to a formal hearing and entered a no contest plea to the violation.
Anderson is currently the third-leading trainer at the Grand Island track, with 12 wins from 61 starters since the racing meet began February 14. The commission’s decision did not prevent Anderson from entering or running horses during the weekend races.
Fonner Park CEO Chris Kotulak said the track takes rule violations seriously but emphasized that the matter is still under investigation. Kotulak noted he could not comment further because of the ongoing review.
