LINCOLN — In response to devastating wildfires across Nebraska, Jim Pillen has signed an executive order aimed at helping livestock producers facing shortages of feed and essential supplies.
The order temporarily waives hours-of-service restrictions and modifies load size and weight limits for commercial motor carriers transporting supplies to affected areas. State officials say the changes are designed to speed up delivery of critical resources to farmers and ranchers impacted by the fires.
The executive order, labeled 26-07, took effect immediately and will remain in place for 14 days.
Governor Pillen says the action is necessary as producers work to protect their livestock and recover from damage. He emphasized the importance of quickly delivering feed and supplies to support Nebraska’s agricultural industry.
The move has also drawn support from industry leaders, including Nebraska Cattlemen President Craig Uden, who praised the swift response as producers continue to deal with wildfire impacts.
Officials report that more than 600,000 acres have burned across central and western Nebraska, creating ongoing challenges for communities, emergency responders, and agricultural operations throughout the region.
