LINCOLN — A bill that offers a tax credit to volunteer EMT’s, rescue squad members, and volunteer firefighters has won final approval in the legislature.
The measure creates a $250 tax credit for qualifiers.
This is the priority bill for 43rd District Senator Al Davis. He says a concern during debate was the overall cost, but Davis says the criteria makes sure this goes to those workers that most deserve it.
“There are a lot of steps that everybody has to move through on that bill,” he says. “You have to participate as a very active member.”
“[If] you’re a firefighter need have to be at some training, you need to be involved in the meeting structure,” Davis adds.
Davis adds that this is especially beneficial to rural Nebraska, where volunteer services are most used.
The bill passed with no dissenting votes. Governor Ricketts is expected to sign it into law next week.
