BURWELL — Garfield County is being affected by tensions between the Nebraska Public Power District and landowners over the planned R-Project.
The transmission line would extend from south of Sutherland, north to Thedford and east across northern Loup, Garfield and Wheeler Counties.
NPPD is in the process of finishing collecting permits, but is offering reimbursements to do survey work. Some of which may need to be done for county purposes, regardless.
This is causing tension with landowners who have have not given the right-of-entry to NPPD and worry about potential environmental damage to the area.
Garfield County is continuing to search for options to stay neutral and let the legal process work its way out between the NPPD and land owners.
According to the NPPD’s timeline, the group plans to continue easement acquisition for the rest of 2016 and begin construction in February of next year.
