COMSTOCK — An effort to bring the Comstock Festivals back is in full force.
A group has planned a two-day “Comstock is Back” concert for July 23rd and 24th at the 2nd Wind Ranch in Comstock.
It’s been six years since Henry Nuxoll and his crew put together the festivals, with some efforts by other groups during the meantime. Nuxoll hopes the two days will serve as a spring board for a full-fledged series in 2017.
“This is, basically, a test concert to see if people are willing to come back to Comstock,” he explains. “If they will, then we will continue on to bigger-and-better days, but by having these events and reigniting ‘the magic of Comstock’, we can prove to people [that we’re] back in business again and go on from there.”
The business aspect was one of the reasons the festivals were forced to stop. Nuxoll estimates losses of about $1 million, after complications with a booking agent, a stage collapse and other issues.
Still, the event has drawn big names in the past. These include Brad Paisley, Keith Urban and Lynyrd Skynyrd, plus thousands of people from around the country.
This year is highlighted by Jackyl and The Charlie Daniels’ Band, among others.
Nuxoll says the most important thing is to create an event people enjoy. The hope is to draw about 1,500 to 2,000 people each day in order to break even.
