LINCOLN — A proposal has failed to pass the Nebraska Board of Education that would challenge a federal transgender bathroom directive.
The resolution halted at a 3-3 tie with two members absent. It would have relied on school districts to use their discretion in deciding what bathroom transgender students should use.
This was designed to counter guidelines released by the Obama administration, which says schools that receive federal funding must allow transgender students to use restrooms and locker rooms according to their expressed gender.
