LINCOLN — A local Nebraska lawmaker has been fined $500 for not disclosing his owned stock in a company which would have been affected by legislation he introduced last year.
43rd District Senator Al Davis agreed to the settlement with the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission.
Davis introduced, and later withdrew, a bill that would have imposed a severance tax on niobium, while owning stock in a company that was planning to mine the mineral in southeast Nebraska. Common Cause Nebraska filed a complaint after the senator didn’t file a conflict of interest statement.
The Hyannis resident says he did not intend to violate the state law and that his interest in the company was already public knowledge.
Davis lost the May primary, but still advanced his re-election bid to the November general.
