LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Drew Bippes threw for 267 yards and accounted for four touchdowns, and seventh-ranked Falls City Sacred Heart wiped out an early deficit to defeat No. 3 Twin Loup 44-28 in the Class D2 championship football game Monday.
Emerson Keithley caught three passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns as the Irish (12-1) won their second state title in four years.
Braden Strohl’s 45-yard fumble return put Twin Loup (12-1) up 14-0 in the first quarter, but Keithley’s 40-yard TD tied it 22-all at half.
The Irish took the lead for good when Sean Arnold ran 2 yards to finish a nine-play, 62-yard drive to start the second half.
Bippes completed 11 of 21 passes, threw for three touchdowns and ran for another. Brandon Scheitel led the Irish with 13 tackles and Michael Keithley had 11 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
Twin Loup’s Rowdy Oxford threw for 186 yards, with Alex Horky catching six balls for 109 yards.
