A $15,000 donation was given to the Beginnings Pregnancy Resource Center in ONeill from the Nebraska Knights of Columbus State Culture of Life Foundation. This donation was given during its first fundraiser on Oct. 15 at the ONeill Community Center.
The donation will cover startup costs for the pregnancy center and will also pay for half the costs for an ultrasound machine for the center. The remaining half will come from the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus.
This being the eighth ultrasound to be placed in pregnancy center in Nebraska by the Culture of Life Foundation, funds are provided by councils and parishes across Nebraska who participate in the One Rose One Life Campaign.
Foundation directors Brian and Mary Jo Hamik presented Pat Anson, chair of the Beginnings board of directors, with the check.
Also present were State Deputy Lou Gasper, his wife Carole and Grand Knight Andrew Fehringer of ONeill Knights of Columbus Council 701.
The Beginnings center is scheduled to open Jan. 22.
With the services provided by this Christian organization, pregnancy testing, STD testing, ultrasound readings and life-affirming support for those making pregnancy decisions is at no cost to clients.
To serve as the director, Mandy Chavez has been hired by the Beginnings board of directors.
“She will receive help from volunteers who will serve as mentors for those seeking services,” Keith Willis said. “Volunteers should have a passion for helping others and a willingness to learn and follow training guidelines.”
The first training session for volunteers will be held Nov. 17 and 18. The leader of the training will be Terry Williams, an experienced CareNet national trainer.
Anyone interested in attending should contact Pat Anson at 402-336-4524 or Mandy Chavez at 402-340-9013.
