On Wednesday night, a fully-loaded cattle truck tipped over in Schuyler.
A report from the Colfax County Attorney Denise Kracl and sheriff deputies on the scene says just before 6:30 p.m. the truck’s right tires got stuck on the should of Highway 30, about one block from the Cargill meat processing plant.
Jerry Sievers, 59, of Norfolk was driving and attempted to correct the truck back onto the highway, but the weight of the cattle in the trailer brought the truck down.
Siever had non-life threatening injuries, but was hospitalized and had a cut on his ear.
It was reported at least three of the 38 cattle on the cattle pot were dead. The ones that survived were taken to a plant in Richland, where they had been evaluated. The cattle will not be able to be used for human consumption, but could be processed for dog food, according to the deputy.
The Colfax County Sheiriff and local farmers and A. Glenn Kluck Feed Lots responded to the scene.
