On Saturday, approximately 8:20 p.m., in Norfolk, authorities say a married couple were fatally injured when they were struck by a vehicle while crossing the street.
Leslie M. Hoffart, 65, and Galen E. Hoffart, 67, stepped into the roadway on the west side of the intersection of Seventh Street and Norfolk Avenue. The vehicle hitting the couple was driven by 29-year-old Chelsey Foulk, of Norfolk.
According to the Norfolk Daily News, Capt. Mike Bauer with the Norfolk Police Division said medical staff including two doctors and one registered nurse who were at an area business provided immediate medical attention to the Hoffarts, who had just finished a family meal at Black Cow Fat Pig.
Leslie Hoffart was transported by medical helicopter from the scene to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Galen Hoffart was transported to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, where he later was transferred to Mercy Medical Center by medical helicopter.
Both victims succumbed to their injuries
Norfolk Fire & Rescue paramedics responded to the scene, along with Norfolk police officers and deputies with the Madison County Sheriffs Office.
