NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will be hosting a Family Outdoor Day at Mormon Island State Recreation Area (SRA). The event will be Saturday, July 28 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Park visitors can enjoy going on a nature hike with park staff and learn identification of trees, plants, animals, birds, tracks and scat. Guests will also be able to enjoy kayaking on the lake and see first-hand how enjoyable kayaking is. All kayaks, paddles, and life jackets will be provided. If fishing is your sport, spend a relaxing morning catching fish at the SRA; all rods, reels and bait will be provided for this event too. All the activities are free but a valid state park permit is required for each vehicle entering the park.
The event will be held near the fishing pier on the first lake as you enter the SRA. Anyone 16 years of age and older wanting to fish will need a valid fishing permit. Permits are available online at OutdoorNebraska.org and at permit vendors across the state. For more information, call the park at (308) 385-6211.
Mormon Island is off the I-80 and Grand Island turn off, exit 312.
