Burwell, NE – It was an evening of great cooking and giving for Hope Harbor in Grand Island with four chefs competing with one ingredient: pineapple.
The four chefs were in it to win it on Saturday, January 26 at the Riverside Golf Club for the 7th annual Serving Up Hope Event – Battle Pineapple.
The competition was tough as chef Alice Osterman of the Sweet Shoppe in St. Paul made Bacon wrapped pineapple appetizers. Cef Besim Shala of Napoli’s Italian Restaurant in Grand Island made pineapple bruschetta. Chef Nathan Stewart of McKinney’s Irish Pub made Irish pineapple curry.
The fourth chef was Sandstone Grill’s Tammy Pinckney and her Caribbean Street tacos with pineapple slaw and creme fresh on top that stole the show and walked away with this years Traveling Trophy and $100 cash.
Pinckney graciously gave back to Hope Harbor the $100.
The funds raised from this yearly event helped keep operations running smoothly in the 104 bed homeless shelter in Grand Island for women, children and families.
