Six Husker gymnasts were named Scholastic All-Americans announce by the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association on Monday for their efforts in the classroom during the 2018-19 season.
In order to qualify for the WCGA Scholastic All-American award student-athletes must carry a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the academic school year. Kelli Chung (Biological Sciences), Taylor Houchin (English), Sierra Hassel (Accounting), Kynsee Roby (Physical Therapy), Abby Johnston (Pre-Health) and Megan Thompson (Pre-Health) were all listed by the association, being named Scholastic All-Americans.
Hassel and Roby were honored as WCGA Scholastic All-Americans for a second time, while Chung, Houchin, Johnston, Thompson each earned the award for the first time in their careers.
As a team, the Huskers held a cumulative GPA of 3.825 for the 2018-19 season.
Since the NACGC/W (now WCGA) award began in 1997, Nebraska gymnasts have earned a total of 108 Scholastic All-America awards.
