Burwell, N.E., August 17, 2020 – The Annual Calamus Catfish Classic Catfish Tournament will be held on Saturday, August 22nd and Sunday, August 23rd with a few changes due to the COVID-19 Pandemic:
- The pre-fish party/rules meeting at Northside Bar and Grill will continue as planned on Friday, August 21st.
- On Saturday and Sunday, normally the public would be invited to come watch the “weigh in” at the boat ramp. This year, due to safety criteria issued by Nebraska Game and Parks, the normal “weigh in” will not be held and will be closed to the public. Instead, the public will be encouraged to watch the “weigh in” via Facebook Live. Interested members of the public are invited to “friend” Catfish Chasers on Facebook. This will allow them to watch the “weigh in” virtually. Their Facebook page is “Catfish Chasers Tournament Series –New.”
- On Sunday after the tournament is finished and all of the catfish have been weighed, the fishermen will then move to the Garfield County Fairgrounds. The Public will be invited to attend this portion of the event. At this time the awards and prizes will be given and weights announced. It is estimated that this portion of the weekends events will occur between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Please stay tuned to Facebook or contact the Burwell Chamber of Commerce at (308) 346-5210 on Sunday, August 23rd for further details as to a specific time for the awards presentations and weight announcements.
