The Chadron State College wrestling team defeated Western Colorado 27-13 in the final home dual for the Eagles, Friday evening in the Chicoine Center.
“We did a good job finding a way to get the job done tonight,” said CSC Head Men’s Wrestling Coach Brett Hunter, “and it’s exciting to see our youth develop and continue to grow every time we compete.”
The Eagles, who are now 4-3 overall and 2-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competition, went ahead 5-0 on a technical fall win by Tate Stoddard at 125 pounds.
The Mountaineers got on the board at 10-5 with two decisions and a major at weight classes 133 through 149.
However the Eagles answered with three straight wins of their own for a 10-point response. Preston Renner and Tate Allison won decisions at 157 pounds and 165, respectively, and 174-pound Rowdy Pfeil, ranked fourth nationally, put on a takedown clinic for a major decision. Pfeil’s win essentially sealed the verdict in terms of team points.
WCU’s Cole Gray won a decision at 184 to close to within 15-12, but it was too little, too late for the Mountaineers.
CSC’s Eli Hinojosa scored a dramatic pin at 197 pounds, and a forfeit at 285 by the Mountaineers made the final 27-13.
The Mountaineers dropped to 2-4 (1-1 RMAC) with the loss.
Chadron State is set to compete in one final RMAC dual on Thursday, when it visits Colorado School of Mines for a 5 p.m. match on Thursday.
