A Grand Island man who was found to have large amounts of drugs in his apartment after police responded to a report that a male had overdosed now faces federal drug charges in U.S. District Court. Zakaria Hassan, 29, is charged with distribution of 50 grams or more of meth, possession of more than 50 grams of meth with intent to distribute, possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine with intent to distribute, distribution of five grams or more of meth, distribution of meth and aiding and abetting distribution of meth. According to GIPD, officers responded to a residence in January in the 300 block of West Hedde Street because of a report of a man who was unconscious due to an overdose. Paramedics were able to revive the man and then transported him to a hospital. On the scene GIPD officers found marijuana in plain site and this paired with the suspected opioid overdose, led police to getting a warrant to search the apartment. The search found more than 450 Oxycodone pills, three Amphetamine pills, more than 25 grams of methamphetamine, over eight ounces of marijuana and more than $15,000 in cash. The Hall County District Attorney’s Office dismissed the state charges in favor of Hassan’s federal indictment.
