The special board that was appointed by President Biden to help with stalled talks about railroad contracts has suggested that 115,000 railroad workers receive a 24% raise and thousands of dollars in bonuses in an attempt to have the two sides reach an agreement to avoid a strike. The Railroads and unions will now have to return to the negotiating table for a new round of talks to find an agreement on wages and working conditions for workers. If an agreement is not reached by mid September, federal law allows for the workers to go on strike. Congress is likely to step in before this happens to keep supply chains open.
