42-year-old Jason Jones of Kearney was convicted on Friday of first-degree sexual assault for an incident from last year in May. This conviction was a plea deal that dropped charges of third-degree domestic assault, strangulation and false imprisonment for a no contest plea. The second incident was against another victim in September in 2019 and 2020 of February where he plead no contest to a charge of first-degree assault for both incidents but prosecutors dropped charges of attempted murder, third degree assault, strangulation and false imprisonment. Details from both these cases have been sealed by the courts but the origins of the charges indicate that there are two separate victims. Jones sentencing hearing is scheduled for November. He could receive 20 years for each conviction with the sentence to be served at the same time.
