Residents in a rural area south of Lincoln were ordered to evacuate their homes Sunday afternoon because of a wildfire that was being made worse by windy conditions. Anyone who was in the area between Cortland and Firth in northern Gage and southern Lancaster counties were urged to evacuate because of these wildfires. The Nebraska State Patrol was helping local authorities with notifying residents in those areas of the evacuation order. Officials also asked local farmers in the area to turn on their irrigation pivots and other water sources to help combat the blaze.
