A “heartbeat” abortion bill was brought to the Nebraska State Legislature on Wednesday. The current law in Nebraska allows abortions up to 20 weeks after gestation. This new bill if passed will ban abortions after an ultrasound is performed that detects a heartbeat which is around six weeks. The bill was introduced by State Senator Joni Albrecht of Thurston along with other State Senators. The bill will not bring criminal charges against patients and doctors who perform abortions but it would strip doctors of there medical licenses. The bill also makes exceptions for rape, incest, and health dangers for the mother.
