LINCOLN, NE – Nebraska State Patrol troopers, with the aid of numerous law enforcement agencies, apprehended a Lincoln resident after a pursuit spanning three counties overnight.
The troopers received notification that deputies from Butler County Sheriff’s Office were in pursuit of a Toyota Rav4. The vehicle had allegedly fled when a deputy attempted to check on it while it was parked on the roadside at 11:30 p.m. on Monday. A trooper located the pursuit as it traveled westbound on Highway 92.
According to NSP, the pursuit continued through Polk County and into Merrick County, where the Nebraska State Patrol took over as the primary unit in pursuit. In Merrick County, officers from the Central City Police Department deployed stop sticks to slow down the fleeing vehicle. The Toyota eventually came to a stop west of the intersection of Highway 14 and Highway 92.
Despite orders to exit the Toyota, the driver, identified as 36-year-old Matthew Ross from Lincoln, reportedly did not comply, NSP stated. After a few moments, the driver allegedly accelerated and continued westbound, until a trooper conducted a tactical vehicle intervention, bringing the Toyota to a stop. The driver was then taken into custody without further incident.
Matthew Ross faces charges of suspicion of flight to avoid arrest and willful reckless driving. He was subsequently booked into the Butler County Jail.
Assistance in this incident was provided by the sheriff’s offices of Butler, Polk, Howard, and Merrick Counties, along with the Central City Police Department.
