LINCOLN — Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers announced the recovery of more than $1.4 million for consumers in 2024, marking a significant increase from the $1 million recovered in 2023. The funds were recovered through the efforts of the Consumer Affairs Response Team (CART) within the Attorney General’s Office, which works to resolve consumer complaints and facilitate the return of lost money.
CART assists Nebraskans by addressing complaints related to identity theft, scams, home repairs, auto issues, and online shopping. The team engages with businesses and consumers to achieve voluntary resolutions and recover funds lost to scams or disputes.
Attorney General Hilgers praised the CART team, stating, “I am incredibly proud of the dedication and commitment of our CART team. They listen, educate, and take action to help Nebraskans in difficult situations. Beyond the $1.4 million recovered, their work provides vital support to vulnerable populations and assists individuals on the brink of becoming scam victims.”
Nebraskans seeking assistance can file a complaint with CART by visiting ProtectTheGoodLife.Nebraska.gov or calling the Attorney General’s Office at (402) 471-2682. Complaint forms are also available by mail.
The Attorney General’s Office is also focused on consumer education, offering free resources and presentations to help Nebraskans protect their personal data and finances. For more information, visit the website.
