GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Grand Island is in the running for a $120,000 grant to expand its popular Hear Grand Island outdoor music series beginning in 2026. The funding opportunity comes from the Levitt Foundation, a national nonprofit dedicated to supporting free outdoor concerts that bring communities together.
From Friday, September 5, through Monday, September 15, the public can help boost Grand Island’s chances by voting online at levitt.org/vote or by texting HEARGI to (877) 409-5525. The Levitt Music Series Grant will award up to $120,000 over three years to U.S. nonprofits, helping them produce 7 to 10 free concerts each year in underused public spaces.
Melissa DeLaet, CEO of the Greater Grand Island Community Foundation, said Hear Grand Island has become “a true community treasure,” and emphasized that the Levitt partnership offers an exciting chance to make summer Friday nights even more vibrant.
Since launching in 2017, Hear Grand Island has showcased a wide variety of music genres and grown into a local staple. The weekly summer series, co-produced by Brent Lindner and community partners, earned recognition as the 2023 Outstanding Tourism Event by the Nebraska Tourism Commission.
Grant recipients will be announced on Tuesday, November 18, after public votes are tallied and proposals reviewed by the Levitt Foundation.
