Martha M. Kluthe of Scotia passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, at The Heritage at Sagewood in Grand Island, Nebraska at the age of 94.
Martha Margaret was born August 31, 1931, at Beemer, Nebraska to Carl and Caroline (Ortmeier) Spenner. She grew up on the family farm near Beemer and graduated from Beemer High School in 1949. Matha’s parents passed away at a young age; and she was left to help raise her brother, Bernard.
On June 27, 1950, Martha and Alfred B. Kluthe were united in marriage at Beemer, Nebraska. The couple made their first home at Dodge until 1955, when the family moved to a farm southeast of Scotia. They farmed and fed cattle; and Martha was involved in the farm work and daily chores.
In 1985, Martha and Alfred moved northwest of Scotia. Alfred passed away on November 18, 1988. Martha continued living in her home where she enjoyed country walks, gardening and loved watching her grandchildren ride the golf cart around on her farm. She delighted in attending the numerous sporting events and drama and musical activities that her grandchildren were involved in. Martha and her brother Art traveled extensively, visiting numerous countries. She has made her home at The Heritage at Sagewood since April of 2019.
Martha was an active member and played the organ at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Scotia and was a current member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters in Greeley.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Deb Kluthe and Dale and Kathy Kluthe; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Scott Mabry; daughter-in-law, Denise (Mrs. Don) Kluthe; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Pam Spenner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; son, Don; grandson, Christopher Kluthe; granddaughter, Alexandra Kluthe; four sisters, Clare Kluthe, Trudy Beard, Fran VanBuskirk and Mary Schweitzer; and two brothers, Art and Gilbert Spenner.
A visitation and receiving of friends will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Private Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Scotia, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the Family’s Choice to be designated. Ord Memorial Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.
