A tragic accident north of North Platte claimed the life of an 18-year-old on Friday evening. According to the Nebraska State Patrol, Brayden Hultquist of North Platte was struck and killed while helping push a stalled Ford pickup along the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 83 just before 7 p.m.
Hultquist and another individual were attempting to move the disabled vehicle off the roadway when a Jeep Wagoneer crashed into the rear of the pickup. The impact pushed the truck off the road and caused the Jeep to roll into a nearby ditch.
The second person assisting suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The driver of the Jeep, 49-year-old Kyndal McClain of North Platte, was transported to Great Plains Health for treatment of minor injuries as well.
The Nebraska State Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
