A former Lincoln television sports reporter has been formally charged with first-degree premeditated murder in the stabbing death of her mother last week in Wichita, Kansas.
Angelynn E. Mock, 47, appeared in Sedgwick County Court on Tuesday following her arrest in connection with the death of her mother, 80-year-old Anita L. Avers. Mock is being held on $1 million bond and will be represented by a public defender, according to court records.
Police were called to the pair’s home around 7:51 a.m. Friday for a reported stabbing. Officers arrived to find Mock outside the home with stab wounds on her hands. Inside, they discovered Avers unresponsive in her bed, suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Court documents allege that Mock “unlawfully, intentionally, and with premeditation” killed her mother in what authorities are calling a domestic violence incident.
Avers, a marriage and family therapist, was remembered in her obituary as someone who “had a passion for counseling.” She leaves behind a husband, two sisters, three children, and two stepchildren. Mock has been ordered not to contact her stepfather.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Mock worked part-time as a sports reporter and photographer for KLKN-TV in Lincoln from 2002 to 2004. More recently, she was employed as a data management consultant.
Court records also show that in late 2022, four creditors filed lawsuits against Mock, though all cases were later dropped.
Mock’s next court hearing is scheduled for November 14 in Sedgwick County Court.
