NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — A former North Platte Community College softball coach and faculty member has filed a lawsuit against the college, alleging gender discrimination and retaliation.
According to court records filed in Lincoln County District Court late last month, Janelle Higgins, who worked at the college for nearly 14 years, is seeking at least $100,000 in damages for lost wages, benefits, and emotional and reputational harm.
Higgins claims she was subjected to gender bias and harassment after speaking out about workplace complaints, including a sexual assault investigation and what she says were false accusations made against her. She alleges the retaliation eventually led to her termination on February 5th, 2024.
In the filing, Higgins contends that after she raised concerns about how certain issues were handled, she was targeted and unfairly dismissed from her position.
Officials with North Platte Community College declined to comment on the case, citing the ongoing litigation.
