A former girls wrestling coach at David City High School has been sentenced to prison for attempting to lure a teenage student into sexual contact. Thirty-eight-year-old Jeremy Andel of Bruno pleaded no contest to attempted child enticement as part of a plea agreement. Butler County District Judge Christina Marroquin sentenced Andel on Tuesday to a prison term of two to six years and ordered him to register as a sex offender for the next 25 years.
The investigation began in May 2024, when the parents of a 16-year-old girl reported to David City Police that Andel had been sending their daughter inappropriate messages for several months. According to an affidavit, police discovered approximately 1,700 text messages exchanged between Andel and the student between September 2023 and May 14, 2024. Some of the messages included questions about explicit photos and statements indicating he “couldn’t wait” for her to turn 18 so they could be together.
Although the girl was not on the wrestling team, she was a student at the school. Andel served as a community coach for the girls wrestling program from November 2023 until his resignation in May 2024, shortly after the complaint was filed. He voluntarily surrendered his teaching certificate in December, according to the Nebraska Department of Education.
