Two Grand Island women are facing criminal charges following an investigation into a grocery theft scheme at a local supermarket. According to Hall County Court records, 46-year-old Sapphire Utley has been charged with theft by deception involving $1,500 to $4,999, while 32-year-old Keishawnda Medlock is charged with aiding and abetting theft by deception.
The case stems from a report by Super Saver, located at 710 State Street, which alerted authorities to suspicious activity captured on surveillance video between October 17 and November 1. Investigators say Utley was seen on four separate occasions filling a shopping cart with groceries while handing Medlock several packets of Kool-Aid. An arrest affidavit states that Medlock allegedly scanned only the Kool-Aid packets at checkout instead of the items in Utley’s cart.
Court documents indicate the total value of the unscanned grocery items exceeded $2,500.
