A 47-year-old McCook woman is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation into the sale of more than $1 million worth of cattle in western Nebraska. Amanda Gentry has been charged in Keith County District Court with two Class 2A felonies: theft by deception involving $5,000 or more, and identity theft involving $5,000 or more.
According to court records, the case came to light after the owner of the Ogallala Livestock Market contacted law enforcement on November 7. The owner reported that on October 16, a total of 453 head of cattle were purchased from the market for $1,242,583.73. The cattle were reportedly sold to C&A Farms of Mansfield, Texas, and shipped to a feedlot in Red Willow County.
Court documents state that the livestock market owner and staff made several unsuccessful attempts to collect payment through Gentry and another individual believed to be involved. Investigators later learned that the alleged victim told authorities on November 13 that he did not make the purchase, did not authorize anyone else to do so, and had no connection to C&A Farms.
Gentry was arrested in McCook on November 18 and transported to the Keith County Jail. Her arraignment is scheduled for January 9.
