A Palmer man has been sentenced following a rollover crash in Merrick County that claimed the life of a pregnant woman and her unborn child. Court records show Dylan Dugger, 33, was sentenced Monday in Merrick County District Court to a total of one year in jail after pleading no contest to charges of motor vehicle homicide and motor vehicle homicide of an unborn child. As part of the plea agreement, an additional charge related to falsifying a form and failing to update law enforcement was dismissed.
According to the Merrick County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded last November to a crash near Ormsby Road and Seventh Road. Investigators reported that a 1998 Chevrolet pickup driven by Dugger was traveling west when it crossed the center line, left the roadway, entered a south ditch, and struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to roll over. The passenger, Hailee Vlach, 23, of Palmer, who was pregnant at the time, died from her injuries. Authorities said her unborn child also died as a result of the crash.
