Carrie Cae Hansen, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 17, 2026, at her home in North Loup, Nebraska at the age of 68.
Born on August 14, 1958, in Ord, Nebraska, Carrie was the daughter of Lynn V. and Arlene “Kay” Bennett Kerchal. She spent her early years on a farm north of Ord and graduated from Ord High School in 1976. After high school, she moved to Atlanta to further her education and worked at Peachtree Plaza Hotel.
During a visit home in 1982, Carrie met the love of her life, Dennis E. Hansen, a member of the Loup Valley Wranglers band who was playing at a dance at the Ord Vets Club. They were married on June 11, 1983, in North Loup, Nebraska. Together, they welcomed a son, Nicholas, and three daughters, Nicki, Jeni, and Whitney.
Carrie dedicated her life to her family and community. A devoted mother, she never missed her children’s or grandchildren’s events; and spent hours baking treats for the girl’s out-of-town events. She was affectionately known as a second mom to many. As a Methodist Youth Fellowship Leader, she supported and guided young people and organizing mission trips.
Her professional life included roles at the North Loup Valley Bank and as a crop surveyor. In 1997, she became the North Loup Village Clerk, later taking on the additional role of Scotia Village Clerk in 2007, retiring in May 2025 after years of committed service.
Carrie was passionate about the outdoors, enjoying boating, fishing, camping, and hunting. She had a love for gardening, yard work and there was never a day too hot for mowing. As a sports fan, she particularly liked the Boston Celtics, Tour de France, and watching golf, and loved all music genres.
Known for her willingness to help and her warm smile, Carrie will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Dennis of North Loup; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Nicki and Josh Underwood of North Loup, Jeni and James Vech of Valparaiso and Whitney Hansen of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Elyza and Kellen Underwood and Norah, Jackson and Allie Vech; one great-grandchild, Lilly Delka; two sisters, Kim Thompson (Don Morrow) of Ord and Heidi McKenna (Steve) of Arlington, Massachusetts; in-laws, Debora Hansen, Sondra and Wayne Pohlmeier and Lori and Randy Merten; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Nicholas; two sisters, Penny and Janeen Kerchal; brother-in-law, Scott Hansen and parents-in-law, Harold and Claire Hansen.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the North Loup Community Building. The family will receive friends and refreshments will be served from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Family for future designation.
