At approximately 7:50 a.m. on Aug. 20, 2026, Hall County sheriff’s deputies responded to a fatal crash near mile marker 312 on Interstate 80 involving an SUV and a semi-truck.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 2012 Dodge Journey was traveling eastbound in the westbound passing lane of I-80 when it collided with a westbound 2019 International semi-truck.
The semi-truck was driven by 46-year-old Josh Wakefield of North Platte. Wakefield was transported to Grand Island Regional Hospital for evaluation of possible injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Dodge Journey was identified as 73-year-old Delores Roberts of Hastings. Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt, and the vehicle’s front airbag deployed.
Authorities do not suspect alcohol was a contributing factor. However, extremely low visibility caused by fog is being considered as a possible factor in the crash.
Hall County crash investigators responded to the scene and are continuing to investigate.
Assisting agencies included the Nebraska State Patrol, Doniphan QRT, Grand Island Fire Department and the Hall County Attorney’s Office.
