The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) announced that bids have been opened for Project Access York, marking a significant milestone for the City of York and bringing the project one step closer to reality. The project is designed to enhance bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure while improving connectivity throughout the community.
Following years of planning, Project Access York is now entering the next phase, which includes reviewing bids and awarding the construction contract. Once complete, the project is expected to benefit the broader region by improving connectivity and access, supporting economic development and helping position York for continued growth.
Project Access York is supported by $15.63 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s RAISE Program. The funding was awarded in 2022 with assistance from the Nebraska Infrastructure Hub (IHUB).
The project will expand and connect York’s existing trail system, adding approximately 9 miles of new trails throughout the city. Plans also include construction of a pedestrian overpass across U.S. Highway 81 (US-81), providing a safer and more connected route for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Construction is set to begin in 2027, pending completion of the bid review and contract award process.
