ORD — Changes to preschool regulations could be on the way under new federal regulations, but they might not be logistically sound. At least that’s the view of Ord Superintendent Jason Alexander.
He sent a letter objecting to these changes. They include an increase in the amount of time a three or four year old spends in school from three-and-a-half to six hours per day.
Alexander says this has a negative impact on local providers. “For not only us but for other preschool providers across the nation and head-start providers so I tried to point out, respectfully, the impact that would have not only on our preschool, but other preschool’s across the state.”
Among the other proposed changes would be requiring preschool bus monitors to be trained in CPR and first aid. Which Ord contends is good in theory, but not practical when trying to find people to fill those positions in rural communities.
