ORD — After voting not to sign a new franchise agreement with Source Gas in September, the City of Ord signed an amended offer this week.
The city council turned down the previous agreement because Source wanted to charge the city to move gas lines on any pavement project. That’s not the case with this new deal.
“I think we have a workable agreement,” says Utility Superintendent Paul Markowski. “We pretty much got everything changed where, if we do street improvements and that type of thing, they are going to stand all the costs for the moving of gas lines.”
The issue first arose about five years ago when Source tried to charge the city $45,000 to lower a gas line as part of a paving project, which wasn’t in their deal at the time.
Since then, Ord has fought efforts by the company to get the municipality to shoulder the costs of moving gas lines.
