ORD — The company that takes distiller byproduct from the ethanol plant south of Ord and turns it into feed has begun operation.
Nebraska Distillers has spent the better part of the last year working on getting approval, construction and getting equipment to the spot off of Highway 11.
The way the company operates is rare. In fact, there are only three like it in the country. Gaylord Boilesen helps run the facility and says the difference can mean big things for the company.
“Most feed companies, to pellet it, the technology they have doesn’t allow them for that cube to stay together and we have the only technology that will allow you to cube this and stay together with 100% distillers,” he explains.
“What that really means is they can feed two pounds of this versus four pounds of normal feed that comes out.” Boilesen adds.
The product from Nebraska Distillers will be sent both locally and across the country. The first shipment this week was headed for Loup City.
Overall, nine people have been hired to work at the facility and the company wants to add four more in the near future.
