LINCOLN — In an effort to fight the number of deaths caused by drug overdose, the Nebraska Legislature is proposing legal immunity for users who call for help in an emergency.
This would apply to all possession charges, including felonies. Supporters say the measure gives authorities a key resource in preventing overdose deaths.
The bill is similar to one that was passed in the legislature last year. That gave immunity to minors seeking help for themselves due to alcohol poisoning.
